The offline RPGs I keep reinstalling

June 21, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Offline RPGs are tricky. Most modern ones sneak in a login screen or an energy meter tied to a server. The good ones respect that you might be on a plane, and they store everything on your device.

Emberfall Saga is my current favorite. The turn-based combat has real depth, positioning matters, and the whole campaign lives locally. I've replayed the opening dungeon three times just to try different party builds.

When picking an offline RPG, check two things before you commit: does it warn you about a connection anywhere, and how big is the save file. A good offline RPG will happily let you toggle airplane mode from the start menu.

Save often, experiment with your skill trees early, and don't rush the story scenes — the best of these games reward players who read.
